Abstract

In many cases, educational applications are built around a conceptual network, that represents key concepts or topics of the application domain, and that it is used to structure the system information. One of the major difficulties of the design and implementation of these applications is the manual identification and organization of the domain concepts. In this paper we present a complementary approach to this manual structuring of information which is based on the Formal Concept Analysis (FCA) and an example of its application in a help system called Aran. Using FCA theory we can automatically obtain the domain formal concepts and organize the information around them. This approach is proposed as a tool to help the designers in the identification and organization of the domain concepts. Also, the intelligent system for Unix Aran is presented where both approaches are integrated to assist the user.
