Abstract

This paper is presented as the doctoral thesis for the iteration of the PhD Programme in European Union, of the Universidad Nacional a Distancia (UNED). The main research question is: "What are the Challenges and Opportunities of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency -Frontex in Non-EU Country- Republic od North Macedonia?" The purpose of this research is organized: 1) to assess how Border Guards (BG) of the Republic of North Macedonia perceive the collaboration of the Agency; 2) to explore whether an "improved perception" of the collaboration, can lead to higher job satisfaction and, eventually, to more effective Joint Operations. Through an empirical qualitative and quantitative research, a sample of Thrid Country (North Macedonia) borders have provided the data on the perception of the collaboration with Frontex in the context of the Joint Operations (fully fledged and n-fully fledged) implemented in their country. The data have been analysed considering Colaizzi methodology, which results would show: - organized contribution of the JO to increase the national capabilities; - if they are useful tool for enhancing the exchange of experiences and best practices; - if they are an effective support in carrying out specific activities in the Republic of North Macedonia and, furthermore, which impact might have management of the EU external border.
