Resumen

From 1989 onwards the Spanish archaeological mission in Sudan has been working on a project of survey and excavation of prehistoric sites along 40km of the Blue Nile river (East bank) southeast of Khartoum. The survey of the oreo has been completed, with the discovery of several palaeolithic surface workshops, o great number of Mesolithic sites (c. 9300-6000 bp), and some Early Neolithic (c. 6000-5000 bp) and Lote Neolithic sites (c. 5000-3000 bp). The micro-spatial analysis of surface remains in the Mesolithic sites suggests that different functional areas existed, and the chronological seriation points to the fact that cultural contacts with the Sahara probably took place from the beginning of the period; macro-spatial analysis indicates that the settlement patterns were clearly different in the Mesolithic and the Neolithic, in accordance with the change from a hunter-fishing-gathering way of life to a domestication-cultivation economy.
