Abstract

The study shows some characteristics of the real situation of science education and the integration of educational technologies in the Spanish primary schools, where 9 teachers from 4 schools have been used as study cases. School official documents analysis, deep inquiry and 72 in situ observations were the instruments of data collection. Results show that traditional lecture instruction, based on textbook is the current way of science education, and information and communication technologies (ICT) are frequently used as a mere support. Only few cases found their science instruction in ICT, using blogs or webquest. Activities by means of ICT produce an increase in pupils’ motivation. Even a change in attitude vs. science contents has been observed. It is also remarkable that the formation offer is null in the official documents, and that none of the interviewed had received formation in science education. Contrarily there are offer and all of them have already participated in ICT workshops. Nevertheless, teachers think that science should be extended in scholar timetables, which means that they understand science as a cornerstone in kids’ education.
