Resumen

In this doctoral thesis, I analyze 12 mayor plays written by the Spanish playwright Manuel Linares Rivas. Our Purpose is to demonstrate how this Galician author aligns himself with the ethical and aesthetic criteria of a radically new theatrical movement in the first third of the twentieth century. The theoretical framework of my research has been the school of sociocriticism, with special attention to the hermeneutical proposals of Jürgen Habermas. In this regard, although the author is not a mainstream Marxist dramatist, his plays evidence a social-political concern in line with the critical perspective of Benito Pérez Galdós or the more radical proposals of Ramón Gómez de la Serna.
