Resumen

Este estudio teórico presenta una revisión de múltiples investigaciones empíricas y trabajos teóricos en los que se analizan tipologías de hombres violentos contra su pareja. En primer lugar, se describen las tipologías más relevantes y los aspectos que tienen en común. Específicamente, la mayoría de estudios tipológicos sobre maltratadores han distinguido tres categorías: a) limitados al ámbito familiar, b) borderline/disfóricos, y c) violentos en general/antisociales. Estudios más recientes han identificado nuevos subtipos de agresores (por ejemplo, el antisocial de bajo nivel) o bien se han centrado en otras variables de clasificación (características psicopatológicas y de personalidad o etapas y procesos de cambio). En segundo lugar, se examinan algunos de los interrogantes actuales sobre este tema (la estabilidad de las tipologías con el paso del tiempo y la tipología en relación con el continuo antisocial). Y en tercer lugar, se considera la posibilidad de intervenciones terapéuticas específicas en función de cada tipología. Se comentan las implicaciones de este estudio para la práctica clínica y para las investigaciones futuras.
