Zusammenfassung
This article analyzes the findings of a 1996 survey on Spaniards' attitudes towards saving banks in Spain. Its aim is mainly descriptive of the population's attitudes and opinions regarding how savings banks are meeting two main challenges: that ofsucceeding in the competition with commercial banks while keeping sound balances; and that of keeping an image in accordance with their distinctive goals and identity. Besides, the article offers some tentative explanations of these attitudes, as well as it suggests a general discussion of these issues in the framework ofa theory of institutional diversity.
