Zusammenfassung
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the placebo effect in the biofeedback EMG treatment of headaches. Twenty-two headache patients were assigned to one of three experimental groups: a) Placebo EMG biofeedback with internal control; b) Placebo EMG biofeedback with external control; and c) Real EMG biofeedback. The results demonstrated that placebo EMG biofeedback was as effective as real EMG biofeedback in reducing headache frequency. Finally, the variables assessed in this study are discussed in order to explain the nature and efficacy of the placebo effect.
