This brief essay makes a survey of the historical research undertaken during the last decade on school-books in Latin America. At the same time, it describes the main on-going research initiatives on this topic, as well as the contribution of the MANES research project of the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED) in Madrid, through its collaboration-agreements with Latin American Universities.
