Abstract

In the area of education, the process of construction of the European Union displays a short but intense history. Between the Rome and Nice Treaties educational policies in Europe have converged in a definition of a European Area in Higher Education which intends to promote more qualitative and competitive Higher Education. Among the diverse activities which have to be implemented in Spanish universities we can outline that of the convergence of our current map of official qualifications into the new requirements of Higher Education in Europe. Nevertheless, this is a hard project, as our current structure differs in many ways from that of other European countries. In this text we examine the process developed in our country in order to make adequate the area of education to European requirements. In this area we can find two nets, one in Primary and Early Childhood teacher training and a second one, referring to other professionals working in education, such as those trained in Pedagogy and in Social Education.
