Abstract

This study of Spanish emergencies service workers (N = 151) tested a pattern of relationships between social identity, burnout and job satisfaction based on the self-categorization model. We proposed that both organizational identification and perceived burnout have impact on satisfaction with colleagues, and that this impact would be mediated by social support. All these hypothesized relationships were simultaneously tested using a structural equations modelling technique. The results of a series of AMOS analyses indicate that the postulated model fits the data but there remained a direct path between group identification and satisfaction with colleagues. Results are discussed for conceptual integration and direction for future interventions.
