Estudio del efecto del optimismo disposicional en el bienestar físico y psicológico desde una perspectiva longitudinal

Resumen

El principal objetivo del presente estudio fue analizar las relaciones entre optimismo disposicional y el informe de síntomas físicos y depresivos. Adicionalmente, también queríamos conocer si el instrumento más utilizado para la evaluación del optimismo, el Life Orientation Test (LOT), mide una o dos dimensiones. Se realizaron medidas de las variables al inicio del curso (tiempo 1) y una semana antes del comienzo de los exámenes parciales y eliminatorios (tiempo 2), transcurriendo entre ambas medidas 77 días. Los resultados mostraron que tanto las personas altas en optimismo como las bajas en pesimismo informaron de menos síntomas depresivos y físicos que los individuos bajos en optimismo y altos en pesimismo, respectivamente, repitiéndose estos resultados tanto en el tiempo 1 como en el 2. Estos y otros datos obtenidos sugieren la unidimensionalidad del constructo medido con el LOT. Se discute el papel protector que el optimismo tiene en la salud mental y física.
