Résumé

Research on affective relationships shows few instruments to assess attachment during adolescence. In Colombia, research on attachment theory as well as the development of psychometric instruments is scarce. The main goal of this study was to analyse the psychometric properties of the Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment (IPPA) developed by Armsden and Greenberg (1987), Spanish version, with a sample of 1435 Colombian adolescents with ages between 15 and 20 years. Findings showed that the IPPA is a valid and reliable instrument to measure adolescents attachment relationships with parents and peers: high internal consistency scores and a factor structure consistent with the results of the authors were obtained. Results from the cluster analysis allowed us to classify 100 % of the participants into one of the three basic attachment styles proposed by Ainsworth; these findings overcome the limitations observed with other methodologies used in Colombia with which around 30 % of the samples remained unclassified.
