Resumen

El apoyo a la pena de muerte, que es un objeto de estudio significativo por sí mismo, es también una dimensión de la punitividad. Aunque España es un país abolicionista desde hace décadas, una minoría significativa de individuos contestan de modo afirmativo a preguntas sobre la aplicación de aquella, al menos a ciertos supuestos especialmente graves. La teoría de los sentimientos de inseguridad, que puede encontrarse más o menos desarrollada en numerosos comentaristas, hipotetiza a que ello es debido en parte a que las personas con actitudes más benévolas frente al delito y, en particular, más contrarias a la pena capital, experimentan una seguridad mayor por ejemplo en términos económicos. En el presente estudio ofrecemos un test de esta teoría con datos procedentes de una encuesta nacional del Centro de Investigaciones Sociológicas.
