Resumo

In recent decades, tourism has experienced exponential growth around the world, being an engine for gender equality and the empowerment of women as a third workforce. Despite this progress, it is observed in the specialized literature that this process is anchored in a discontinuity of progress and setbacks with permanent overrepresentation and underrepresentation in occupational categories, without having yet reached a necessary adjustment. Empowerment in terms of incorporation into the labor market in terms of equality and sustainable development is more feasible with responsible tourism in rural areas than with the traditional tourism model in urban areas that produces gender inequality, and alludes to corrective strategic policies through the Decent work in all tourism models. Therefore, the present study aims to perform an analytical review that classifies stages in gender studies in tourism work; develop an explanatory theoretical model of the anchored process, and analyze, in comparative perspective, the basic characteristics of female work in Spain and the European Union within the sector, to compare the state of the polarization issue found in women's work
