Resumo

Teaching has turned into a stressful occupation because of its nature, and stress is a worried thread for teachers. The study has been realized in 18 educational centers of Benidorm’s municipality (Alicante). The effect of school time was statistically significant for each burnout dimension and also for the prevalence of burnout syndrome. It was found that the percentage of teachers showing burnout syndrome was 40.6% in June, while the percentage was 28.1% in April, and it reached only 18.8% in October. These findings are consistent with the results obtained by others authors who observed an increased burnout syndrome in the school final phase. This suggests that burnout is a response that can be modified. By identifying June as a critical moment in the appearance of burnout, we can deduce a possible effect of stress accumulation that could explain the results gathered in our investigation.
