Abstract

The study reported in this paper explores the influence of linguistic and cognitive task-demand on the cuality of second language oral performance. Through the prism of cognitive psychology and task-based language instruction, we examined the discourse elicited by three oral tasks (description, narration and argument) in schoolars of early chilhood (8:2 years old). Results showed that increasingly cognitive load produced significant differences in variables related to three levels of processing under consideration: lexical access processes, propositional syntactic construction and meaning structure of the discourse.
