Abstract

Conclusions on calibrated radiocarbon dates obtained upon samples of castros (hillforts) in Asturias (North Spain) are shown. Dates from San Chuis and La Campa Torres are published for the first time, while others have been collected from the archaeological literature. The interpretation of the dates implies to rethink the origins of the Cultura Castreña placing them on Preroman times, between IX and VI centuries BC. Nevertheless, clear Roman levels (I to III centuries AD) and Later Roman levels (V to VI centuries AD) have' also been dated.
