Pratto, Sidanius, Stallwarth & Malle (1994) formulated the Social Dominance Theory to express people's desire to establish and maintain social hierarchies among groups and the subordination of inferior groups to superior ones. These authors elaborated the Social Dominance Orientation scale (SDO) to assess individual differences in this construct. Recent research has pointed to the existence of a bifactorial structure of the SDO: opposition to the equality, and group-based dominance (Jost & Thompson, 2000; Sidanius & Peña, 2002), although in the original version the unifactorial structure was supported. The aim of this study is to validate the SDO scale with a Spanish sample and to ascertain what factorial structure displays a better fit. The results indicate a good reliability and predictive validity of the adaptation. Furthermore, the factorial analyses support the position defended by Jost & Thompson (2000).
