Abstract
Tippett's opera King Priam (1962) is a good example of an operatic libretti of the 20th century based on a classical topic. The text, written by the composer himself, shows direct knowledge of the literary classic sources -on this occasion, the Iliad-, while giving, at the same time, rise to a rereading from those sources, by taking current approaches into account.
