The North-west of Africa should be considered the geographic, historical and political region of Africa more meaningful for the Canary Islands. Such a point of view has gained a hold in the scholarly community during the last years. In the following pages the relationship between the N-W of Africa and the Canaries is examined and envisaged through three different windows: the Prehistory, the Modem Age and Contemporary Times. They are ment to be one selective surnmary. It intends to cast sorne light on the overall fact of continued conection between both territorial identities, grounded as much on material facts as in cultural perceptions.
