Abstract

At present there are two certification systems of ecological products. For one, there is the conventional form of certification, which is based on the performance of companies (public or private) certification, or what is called third party certification. Furthermore, the Participatory Guarantee System (PGS) that farmers are establishing rules and certification mechanisms, based on compliance criteria, based on the principles of participation and network performance in producer organizations, operators and consumers involved in these processes. In some countries both certification systems coexist. In Andalusia there was an attempt to implement a SPG inspired in experience of Rede Ecovida in the south ern states region of Brazil. The objective of this study is to analyze the main obstacles and circumstances that prevented the creation of an SPG in Andalusia.
