Abstract

The landscape of La Pedriza is one of the most emblematic natural areas of the Iberian Peninsula, where scientific and sporting usage converge. Since the early twentieth century its capricious geomorphology has attracted the attention of researchers, naturalists and climbers with the same enthusiasm, and it is currently included in the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park. Moreover, La Pedriza is considered the most important school for adherence climbing in Spain and possibly in Europe. This work explains the origin of some geomorphological processes that shape the surface of rocks, and how the resulting forms influence the practice of climbing there. This article constitutes a didactic document that provides enough information for any visitor to this natural space to get acquainted with the origin of the shapes which are studied here
