Resumen

Traditional historiography has always brought us a vision of the War of the Oranges, as a brief conflict and of little relevance to international relations at that time. Due to this, we intend to provide another perspective of the war which faced Spain and Portugal in 1801. First, we want to bring to light the strategy of Manuel Godoy and Carlos IV to conduct it in favour of their own aggrandizement, safeguarding as much as possible their relations with the Portuguese ruling house and their fundamental interests, trying their own diplomatic way. Finally, highlight the role played by double diplomacy before and after the armed warfare.
