Abstract
Arnao Guillén de Brocar printed in his workshop in Alcalá de Henares, for the first time in Spain, the Comoediae Plauti, divided into two complementary editions, one published in 1517, with ten comedies from the Amphitruo to the Mostellaria, and another published in 1518, with the other ten (from Menaechmi to Truculentus). These Complutense editions transmit some of the called supplementa, written, especially by the humanists, in order to fill in lacunae or textual gaps of the comoediae imperfectae and incorporated into the textual tradition since 1495. The selection of the supplementa made in these editions (two supplementa in the Aulularia, two in the Mercator and one in the Pseudolus) doesn’t agree with the selection made in the previous editions of the Comoediae Plauti. This fact confirms that the complutense editor consulted, at least, two editions in order to elaborate his edition, as the textual variants denote. Likewise, the layout of the supplementa within the editions and the considerations about them (presence or absence of a supplementum in other editions, its origin, etc.), shows the critical consciousness of the editor regarding the original text of Plautus and the later addenda.
