Resumen

Este artículo enfoca la atención en el transporte urbano como factor de contaminación ambiental. A la luz de los resultados de una encuesta realizada en la ciudad de Madrid, se exponen los patrones de conducta, las percepciones y opiniones de los conductores sobre el uso del automóvil y los problemas medioambientales que genera. La encuesta ofrece información sobre las resistencias y los obstáculos a los que se enfrentan las estrategias de reducción del uso del coche y las opciones que resultarían socialmente más aceptables para alcanzar este objetivo. La presentación de los datos y el desarrollo de los argumentos se enmarcan en la teoría de los bienes comunes, que explica los efectos adversos de comportamientos individuales racionales y las razones que conducen a la “tragedia de los comunes”.
