The ecological transition refers to a dynamic process that has acquired great relevance in political initiatives and in a multitude of national and international normative instruments. This document analyzes its dimensions and its possible conceptualization as a paradigm or as a right. In this analysis, the evolution of the concept from other previous notions such as sustainable development is studied and the role of the individual in this process is examined. In the same way, the legal force of the concept is explored, as well as the legal assets protected in this transition. Within this framework, particular attention is paid to its use by the European Union, as well as to other issues that affect the role of States and international organizations in the progressive development of the ecological transition.
