Abstract
In the Middle Ages and in the Early Modern period most part of Galician population was spread all over the territory in small villages, which included Padron. Within these towns, the use of handwriting made it possible to carry out everyday activities of both their inhabitants and their institutions. However, the village of Padron had some extra-graphic particularities (as the presence in it of Santa Maria de Iria’s collegiate church) which marked its graphic culture among the rest of the villages of the tierra de Santiago. The aim of this research is the study of the different features of the written culture of Padron: the notaries and their offices within this village and its jurisdiction, the non-professional scribes, the types of scripts used in documents and codices issued in the village and the books which were preserved by the chapter of Santa Maria de Iria
