Zusammenfassung
Th is article, based on the most important fi lms of the German expressionist cinema of the 1920s, tries to deepen the crisis that their fi lms show. Th e division of the discourses, characteristic of the crisis of humanism, is very perceptible in these fi lms. Mabuse and Caligari are thus symptoms, manifestations that the truth has entered into crisis, because all objectivity, all reality seem to dissolve in the multiplicity of languages with which they are described, all of which have power as a reference. For this reason, the formal twisting of expressionist cinema announces the impossibility of a structured thought in a capitalist world, generator of alienation, institutional violence and oppression. Th e 1920s anticipate, particularly in the cinematographic fi eld, a time when all refl ection on being was going to move towards saying, towards the multiple sayings that dispute the exclusiveness of meaning. A situation that has reached its zenith in our days, with postmodern constructivism.
