Resumen
In Cartagena, numerous civilizations of the ancient world have developed throughout its history. Until a few decades ago, economic activity was based on mining, industry and the presence of the army. The bankruptcy of this economic model occurred after 1970, which plunged the city into a deep crisis, causing the degradation of the central spaces of the same. Since 1990, its economic model began to change, due to the recovery of cultural values, the enhancement of value and the use of heritage led to a recovery of the city oriented in an innovative way towards the economic development generated by tourism, Although there had always been a collective consciousness about the wealth that the city had before its antiquity that spans three millennia, there had not been many initiatives in this regard. In recent years, Cartagena has become a benchmark for local development based on the recovery of heritage and its tourist use, with heritage being the main reason for urban transformation. It has also been notorious the great investment effort that public and private institutions have made for the city to become a city adapted and renewed to the new economic dynamic. The proximity to spaces highlighted by the tourism of "sun and beach" as the shore of the Mar Menor, the Manga, as well as more distant spaces such as the Almeria and Alicante coast have caused the attraction of visitors interested in the patrimonial, cultural and landscape of the city, in fact urban tourism is acting as a catalyst for the development of the city and has modified the urban morphology and landscape in an obvious way.
