Resumo

The increasingconcern of the economic researchers about the financial systems design is justified in the last contributions to the effects of finance to economic growth.Thisarticle reviews the present state of the matter, axamining: 1) the financial structure implications for thereal economy; 2) the two classics financial models inthe evolution of financial systems: the market-based and the bank-based, and 3) the possibility to convergeon a unique model.The present situation of knowledge recommend to intensify the research to develop solidand analytical bases and, in this sense, the article deals with the changes happened to the Spanish financial structure, from 1983 to 1998, with the help of prepared intersectoral financial relationship tables for five years: 1983, 1985, 1990, 1995 and 1998.
