Abstract

China and India started as new independent states in mid-20th Century. After three decades of economic underperformance, these countries initiated in 1978-80 a new stage of economic prosperity, which has generated impressive growth and commercial trends, particularly in the case of China. In the West, this development is observed with deep concern. The Chinese-Indian progression has generated dazzling economic expectations in both countries. Indeed, if some internal corrections were introduced and some external actions were implemented, it would result in a fundamental shift in the international economic power structure. Nevertheless this is a development that most certainly could trigger actions by other powers against China and India, in an attempt to halt their successful development.
