Abstract
In this presentation I wish to contribute to the debate on belief from a phenomenological point of view. With Husserlian notion of Urdoxa (primordial or originary belief) as my inspiration, I wish to analyse it´s evolution in late Husserlian writings in order to highlight some features that belief exhibits. That is, in the first place, its embodied and situated character, and in the second place, a particular mix of theoretic, practical and pathical or affective elements that are inherent to the act of believing. In the first place, we analyse the notion of belief as exposed in Ideas I. In the second place, we go deeper, guided by a short text by Husserl, edited in Spanish as “The Earth does not move”, in order to grasp different ingredients in the seemingly basic notion of originary belief. However, in order to do so, we need to include a short section about genetic method in phenomenology. Finally, and as a conclusion, we offer a brief valuation of the wider notion of belief and its bodily rooting.
