Resumen
En este artículo se analiza la cuota de conductores en España, en la última década, a partir de la información disponible en la DGT (Dirección General de Tráfico) y el INE (Instituto Nacional de Estadística), distinguiendo grupos de población en función de la edad, género y tipo de carnet. El análisis evidencia que la cuota media de conductores ha crecido y también la de los conductores que poseen carnet de coche y de moto. En los jóvenes de 18 a 20 años se estima una cuota muy baja (40 por 100 en hombres; 32,2 por 100 en mujeres) que crece mucho en la siguiente cohorte y llega, por ejemplo, en los hombres mayores de 30 años a superar el 80 por 100. Existe un diferencial de género que presenta forma de «J» en función de la edad: moderado entre los más jóvenes (7,8 puntos porcentuales entre 18 y 20 años), bajo en los adultos de 25 a 49 años y muy alto en el resto (45 puntos porcentuales de 60 a 69 años).
