Abstract

The evolution of behavior therapy over time has resulted in the development of various therapeutic procedures that have improved its efficiency. The explicit reference to the cognitive aspects earned it the name of cognitive behavioural therapy, which has proved effective in a wide range of disorders. In recent decades new therapies have emerged from the more contextual root of behaviour therapy. They place greater emphasis on the roles of behaviours, experiments, emotional aspects, and the empowerment of the therapeutic relationship. These are therapies specifically targeted to serious problems and contribute to strengthening the resources that make up the so-called cognitive behavioral therapy.
