The Great War was a historical juncture for British women to join the public sphere. The work carried out by the women in the field of health was of vital importance to the success of the war effort and for the right to pursue their profession. That was the case of the trailblazer surgeon Elsie Inglis who founded The Scottish Women's Hospitals for Foreign Service (SWH), an organization that provided medical services on the frontlines of allied countries during the First World War.
