Resumo

The Depression and Anxiety Interference Scale for Children and Adolescents [Escala de Interferencia de la Depresión y Ansiedad para Niños y Adolescentes; EIDAN] is the first Spanish self-report measure designed to assess the extent to which depression and anxiety may interfere in relevant areas of children and adolescents’ lives. This study examined the factorial structure, reliability, and validity of the scale in a sample of 303 adolescents, aged 13 to 18 years (M=15.59; DT=1.4). Based on exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, we found a consistent factor structure of three correlated factors of life interference related to: school and daily activities (Factor 1), family (Factor 2) and peers (Factor 3). Results also provided evidence of reliability (internal consistency), and convergent and discriminant validity concerning the total scale and the three subscales. The usefulness of the EIDAN as a brief instrument to the assessment of functional interference related to anxiety and depression in adolescents is discussed
