Abstract

The debates around multiculturalism and relativism are increasingly frequent in the media, virtual spaces and other non-specialized frames. Many of them become cloudy, because of conceptual deficiencies. But these shortcomings are more worrisome if they occur in prestigious authors. The present text tries to judge the precision and accuracy of the approaches in a book, written by an author of international renown. First, the concept of culture with which the author of reference operates is reviewed. Then, the reflections on diversity, moral relativism and cultural relativism that derive from it. Secondly, the text notes that the most basic notions of cultural anthropology do not seem to have reached the social set. The analysis concludes that, throughout the book, the basic concepts of cultural anthropology and moral philosophy are handled carelessly. This prevents a correct approach to the social problems that the author himself recognizes the urgency of addressing.
