Abstract
The future audiovisual law will impose the obligation on the main streaming platforms operating in Spain —Netflix, HBO, Disney + or Amazon Prime Video— to include a minimum of six percent in Catalan, Basque or Galician in their catalogs. This imperative is aligned with the requirement to promote European work, whose mandate, contained in the Audiovisual Communication Services Directive, should have been made effective by Spain before September 2020, the deadline for its incorporation into domestic law. This de iure imperative, although adjusted to the law (the establishment of own production minimums is an important safeguard of the culture of a territory) de facto contrasts with the business model of these platforms, based on economies of scale. This article analyzes, from a legal point of view, the repercussion of this requirement.
