Abstract
It analyses the importance of having a measure of the beta-adrenérgica activity, forstudying the behavioral factors that in fluence the blood pressure. Reviews thealternatives of the non-invasive measures: heart rate, T-wave amplitude, dP/dt, pre-ejection period, and pulse transit time between the Q wave and upstroke of the earpulse wave (P.T.T.). Studies the P.T.T. beha vior in a 8 subjects sample, extremes inlocus of control and beta-adrenergic reactivity, in 4 experimental tasks: relaxation, mental arithmetic, stressing stimulus, and reaction time shock-avoidance. The resultsshow that P.T.T. is a good index of the beta-adrenergic effect on the heart, althoughits detection present important problems due to the movement artefact. Finally, itappear a relation between beta reactivity and locus, while the non-reactive subjectsshow and external locus .
