Abstract
Mixte was a script originated in the French royal chancery andwhich arrived in the Kingdom of Castile through the papal curia of Avignonfrom the first third of the 14th century onwards. As an international script, itwas used in Latin texts and it required a very specialised training of thosenotaries who were able to use it. The aim of this research is the study of theextra-graphic features which determined the introduction and spread of theMixte in Santiago: the archbishops coming from beyond Galicia and thebonds of the church of Compostela with the French area, the training and professional background in Avignon of the notaries by apostolic authority orthe teaching of writing in the notaries’ offices of Santiago.
