Resumo
The connections among different types of relationships is a topic that causes a great deal of interest among researchers in the field of social development. In this paper we analyze the links between the representations of early attachment to parents and the quality of adolescent peer relationships. To this end, 513 adolescents aged between 13 and 19 completed questionnaires relating to relationships with parents and peers. Results show that boys and girls that remember having established secure infant-parent attachment based on affection and promotion of autonomy, maintain more supportive peer attachment relationships and more intimacy with their best friend during adolescence. At the same time, we found that usually attachment to father coincides with attachment to mother, but when this is not the case, establishing a secure attachment to at least one of the parents is enough to assure the development of positive peer relationships
