Abstract

This study aims to adapt and validate a diagnosis instrument concerning the career decision-making difficulties based on Gati's et al. (1996) Career Decision-making Difficulties Questionnaire. The measure model was validated with a sample of 2,783 Spanish students from Madrid aged between 14 and 18, and the scale had an Alpha 0,91 coefficient. Once we carried out the exploratory analysis, we did a confirmatory one using the ¿Structural Equation Model¿ methodology with the AMOS 4.0 programme. The results of the study support the theoretical hypothesis on which the model is based. We obtained a valid scale to assess career decision-making and evaluate processes such as motivation, indecision, self-knowledge difficulties, lack of career information and conflicts resolution. The scale may be used by professionals who work in the career counselling field and whose main target is that of favouring both personal and professional development.Lastly, conclusions, implications for counselling, limitations and future research are also discussed.
