Abstract

The aim of the present study has been to confirm the presence of non-control specific effects in biofeedback treatment for headache. There were four experimental conditions: EMG biofeedback + reinforcement, EMG biofeedback + no reinforcement, placebo biofeedback + reinforcement and placebo biofeedback + no reinforcement. The results indicated that placebo biofeedback and true biofeedback were equally effective for diminish frequency, intensity and duration of pain. Reinforcement variable has little or null effect in dependent variables. Likewise, all experimental subjects, independently of experimental conditions, showed an important improvement in headache.
