Abstract

Compared to the Cortes Generales, the Parliaments of the Autonomous Communities seem to receive less attention in empirical academic research. The aim of this paper is to analyse public opinion on the Parliaments of the Autonomous Communities based on a survey conducted in 2021 in four Autonomous Communities. Specifically, three interrelated dimensions of public opinion on regional parliaments are analysed: knowledge, assessment and expectations. Using logit and ordered logit econometric models, these dimensions are analysed considering as independent variables, variables associated with socio-demographic aspects, identification with the Autonomous Community and ideological preferences. In doing so, the text aims to contribute to three lines of research: on the one hand, to empirical studies of political representation, on the other hand, to improve the understanding of the Parliaments of the Autonomous Communities and, finally, to contribute to the debate on the quality of democracy in Spain.
