Resumen

Located in the medina of Marrakech, the architectural complex of Ibn Ṣāliḥ is remarkable for having various buildings with different functions. However, despite its singularity, studies to date have done little more than document its most monumental structures (the mosque and minaret) in a superficial manner and have not explored the ensemble of buildings as a socio-religious complex very closely linked to the urban fabric. This paper seeks to deepen knowledge about the ensemble and contribute to its consideration within the field of religious architecture of the Islamic West, due to the characteristics of the buildings and also because the complex constitutes a transition between the Almohad and Marinid mosque model. In the history of Marrakech the Marinid period remains very nebulous and at times has been deemed a period of decline; a more complete contextualization of the mosque and its minaret may shed light on this chapter of history. To this end, the article includes a historiographical review, architectural survey drawings and a prelim- inary analysis to facilitate a better understanding of the ensemble’s evolution since the fourteenth century.
