Résumé

In this article we analyze the limits and specificities of the de-colonization process in Central Africa during the 60s, focusing on the white mercenaries who participated in civil wars that took place in Congo (Katanga) and Nigeria (Biafra). The impact caused by their ac-tivities, their international political and economic links, their recruit-ment sources, their motivations and beliefs, the connections between the various mercenary groups, and the conflict between their agendas and those belonging to their promoters, all point towards a «frozen» decolonization. What is more, all these elements highlight the trans-national circulation of counterinsurgent praxis and discourses, and demonstrate the important connections between the global extreme right and traditional nodes of metropolitan power. In this way, we aim to delve into the display of new forms of power, and the control and meddling in postcolonial Africa by western powers and the various lobbies within them
