Rafael Martínez Tomás holds a degree in Physics from the University of Valencia and a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from the UNED, with an extraordinary award. Since 1991 he has held various teaching and research positions at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED). Currently, as a professor in the area of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, he teaches in the Department of Artificial Intelligence (UNED) and as a researcher he leads the renowned SIMDA group (Intelligent Systems, modelling, design and implementation). His lines of research focus on the representation of medical knowledge, modelling and recognition of human behaviour and the application of machine learning for the early identification of cognitive problems, topics in which he has directed theses and projects in these areas as well as published articles in leading journals and related conferences. From 2013 to 2021 he was Director of the School of Computer Engineering of the UNED and since 2021 he is Director of the Associate Centre of the UNED in Albacete.
