Doctor by the UNED. Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia with the thesis La transición paleolítico medio-superior en Cantabria análisis tecnológico de la industria lítica de Cueva Morín 2003. Supervised by Dr. Victoria Cabrera Valdés.

I have a degree in Geography and History (specializing in Prehistory) from the Complutense University of Madrid since 1996 and a PhD in Prehistory from the UNED in 2003. My main lines of research are the Transition between the Middle and Upper Palaeolithic in the Cantabrian region and the Middle Stone Age in East Africa. I have excavated in Cueva Morín and was a member of the El Castillo cave research team from 1998 to 2018. Between 2010 and 2012 I was a member of the "Desert Migrations" project of the University of Cambridge conducting fieldwork in the Fezzan region ( SW of Libya) and from 2012 to 2015 of the "In-Africa" Project, also from the University of Cambridge, carrying out fieldwork in Lakes Nakuru and Turkana, Kenya. I am currently directing a project for the study of the MSA in the Olduvai Gorge (Tanzania) and the excavations of the El Castillo cave (Cantabria). I have been a visiting scholar at the Maison de la Archéologie et de l'Ethnologie at the University of Paris X (1998) and at the Department of Archeology (2008) and the Leverhulme Center of Human Evolutionary Studies both at the University of Cambridge (2010), MUPAC at Cantabria (1999 and 2002), Musée National de Préhistoire de France (2001), Museu Nacional de Arqueologia de Portugal (1998) and Department of Archeology and Heritage Studies of the University of Dar es Salaam (2016). I was the first extraordinary doctorate prize winner in 2003, a scholarship holder of the Instituto Camoes de Portugal in 1998 and I have obtained the Banco de Santander Awards in 2008 and 2010 and I have been a beneficiary of the José Castillejo (2010) and Salvador Madariaga (2016) grants. Within the UNED I have been the Deputy Secretary of the Faculty of Geography and History between 2007 and 2010 and Vice Dean of Research and International Relations between 2019 and 2022.
