Doctor by the Universidad de Salamanca with the thesis Idea y realidad de cruzada en tiempos de Alfonso X El sabio (1252-1284) 2010. Supervised by Dr. José María Monsalvo Antón, Dr. Carlos de Ayala Martínez.

PhD in Medieval History by the University of Salamanca. Predoctoral research fellowships at the University of Edinburgh. Postdoctoral research fellowships, guest lecturer, at the Universities of Bochum-Rhur, Kent (Canterbury) and Konstanz (Germany). Archaeological background. Extensive outreach work in various media, and director of numerous courses and seminars. Specialist in the Medieval Crusades, Military Orders and Medieval Military History. Participation in research groups on the Holy War in the Middle Ages, and director of groups on warfare in the Middle Ages (especially combat/armament) and the Military Orders.
